Photographing florals is one of my favorite things about weddings! They add such beauty, depth and mood to the day that you will always want to remember. Which is why, I always love working with Susan Liles, Northeast TN florist.
Here work is simply stunning and we are so excited to share her VENDOR HIGHLIGHT interview.
Here’s our interview with Susan, a Northeast TN florist
– Tell us all about you and how your business started!
I had my first job in the floral industry nearly 30 years ago in California. I was 23 years old, newly married and working for a wholesale/retail garden center that also offered in-house floral services. Tahoe City had many destination weddings, so I had the opportunity to be part of many beautiful weddings. When we moved to NC in 1995, I had decided to be a stay-at-home mom. I got connected, however, with an event planner/floral designer in Knoxville and was able to work for her on her larger events for the next 15 years. As my children started to leave home, I began to take on wedding work on my own. Several years ago, I launched Susan Liles Floral Design.
– Tell us more about what services you offer!
I primarily concentrate on weddings, although I also do several floral workshops each year with Reclaimed Inspired Goods.
– How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as a cross between garden/foraged and classical floral design. The more involved I get in this industry, the more I realize there is to learn!
– What is your “why” when it comes to your business?
I have always loved gardening and flower arranging. To be able to work with flowers daily is such a gift!
– When a couple books you, what can they expect out of their experience?
– What is your favorite thing about weddings?
I’ll answer the last 2 questions together. I love being a part of one of the most significant days of a couple’s life together. I love hearing their vision for this day and helping bring that to life through flowers. Most people invest heavily in photography to commemorate their weddings ( and wisely so!), but, in my opinion, flowers help set the style for the day and contribute significantly to the beauty of the photographs. I try to listen carefully to what is most important to my clients and provide the best expression of that for their budgets. Each year I plant new flowers in my own garden to be able to add special personalized touches to bridal bouquets. I love weddings that incorporate seasonal and locally grown flowers. We are so fortunate to live in an area where we can grow such a wide variety of flowers!
